Default JDM S1 Tranny

Hey guys,

I've got a question for any of you who have this tranny or just plain know. I have a chance to pick up this tranny but the guy told me that should there be problems, since its the JDM version, it will required strictly JDM parts. (he said that for some reason some people have problems with 2nd and 3rd on a lot of these trannies)

On the other hand I have a chance to pick up a YS1 from a USDM GS-R. He said the clutch disk I have currently (for a 90 teg) won't fit and I'd need a new one.

I looked at this link http://www.g-speed.com/pbh/clutch-info.html and it says that any clutch disk from 90 to now wil work. Is this information correct? I really don't feel like buying any more parts for my car this year.. or at all for that fact..haha..

So which do you guys think I should go for? USDM YS1 or JDM S1. Please keep in mind I'm looking for reliability here and I'm not too concerned over gear ratios.

Thanks in advance.

So if I did go with the YS1, I'd have to get a new clutch disk then right? I'm a little confused as to which source of information is right. My friend or that URL above...

go with the ys1 if youre going for reliability, and it is true the 90 disc will not work, youll have to use the 92 and up disk, due to its larger spline size. s1 has the same gears almost as the ys1. But the ys1 will accaept a lsd, and a nicer final drive.

I agree with iwhichisme. The YS1 is a better choice than the S1. It is Honda's newer design and has the same internal configuration as the hydraulics. As a plus 2nd gear is doubled synco allowing much better 1st to 2nd shifting. Reverse also has a syncro.

Yes, if you go with the gsr tranny, then you will have to get the the 92-up disc. The 89-91 disc has a 25mm spline and the 92-up has a 26mm spline, according to <U>http://www.clutchcityonline.com/acura_racing.htm</U> and "court" <U>https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=158402</U>(read the bottom). I just found this out this week and will probably have to return the 92-up disc for the 89-91, unless I can find a gsr tranny. As for replacement parts, to me it seems that the USDM would obviously be easier to get parts for. However, being that it is a 92-93 gsr, I think that it would be hard to find used parts or you will have to pay an arm and a leg for parts because of their rarity. At least I am having a hard time trying to find one.
BTW, which ever one you go with, can you let me know who to contact to get the one you did not choose.
