Default JDM This, JDM That...What does it all mean?

Okay guys, I need help.

A. JDM-What is this....I mean, I know what the letters JDM mean...but, is everything JDM high quality and better output? I am looking at some different parts (Intake manifold, cams, gears), and they say "Stock JDM B16a"...I have a B16a, so wouldn't I have these on there already? Or are the JDM ones different than what I have? Please help. Also, what would a decent set of intake/exhaust cams cost, and how easy are they to install myself...or should a shoop do it?

B. Screw spending money on the cams newbie. Get some headers that you can bolt on in your back yard (Anyone have any b16a headers for sale?_

ok ill field part of that question
for the jdm cams which set
are they civic type r, ITR, stock etc?
the pistons are a lil higher compression than the us counterparts of the engine (b16, b18 etc) but for the money your gonna spend on jdm pistons just et some good high compression ones.

ok heres a basic rundown
the CTR and ITR cams are high lift, in short more power.
they can be put on at home in a day with nothing special other than a timing light (i think someone correct me if im wrong)
the CTR exhaust cam is the same as the ITR exhaust cam but the intake cams are diffrent.

and for the cams in the auctions, tje jdm b16a cams should be the exact same as any other b16 cam.

if you wanna get cams, the CTR's are a good bet. Cheap, and OEM quality. Just replace your valve springs if you are replacing the exhaust cam. As for installation or tuning, I'm over in Tampa, I can do that for you if you wish.

Tight. I have seen a few different options. Can I just replace the intake cam, and then get like AEM Tru-Time gears, and not have to replace the exhaust cam? I have an offer for 2 AEM Cam Gears for $120, and I am going to take it this week hopefully. I saw a couple of the cams on EBAY, for 200 and some change. Is this a good price for them, or do you have/know any place that can get them for cheaper? How much in HP/Torque gains, and how much will this drop my ET times? In your opinion, should I go into this first or get the headers so the ol B16a can breathe, then go into cams a month from now? OT, but do you know anything about the Fla Dyno meet this weekend? I wanted to take mine there and see what she can do. If you have one over there, I would like to come over there and get it done. Either is fine with me. I want to know where I'm starting b4 I start putting on lots of MODS and not knowing how much I have gained.

Thanks,
Jonathan

well, IMHO, you would greatly benefit from a ITR intake manifold, then install the cam(s). Thats a good deal on the cam gears, I'd buy them.

I am hosting the dyno day, you're welcome to swing by and check it out. There are several threads on it in the ITR forum. If you have any more specific questions, please email me at vapor1@tampabay.rr.com

As for the header i would go with a JDM ITR header good flow and OEM so it's the ****. I would probably go with the header before the cams cuz it's really goin to let you breathe a lot more over the lil stock one. When you get the cams i would just get the intake cam wether it's CTR or ITR, the exhaust one isn't even good for 1hp so I thinks it's just a waste of money. Also remember that the 2000 USDM ITR intake cam is the same spec as the CTR so just go with whatever is cheaper. Have fun gettin more power!!!!!!!!!

Thanks, I'll look into that. Aren't the ITR headers 4-1 though? Would that mean cutting of the crossmember,or will it fit? What kind of HP gains will I feel on the ITR vs like a DC Sports 4-1? Also, on the o2 sensors, how do I handle this? I have 2 sensors on the stock header, but all of the pictures I have seen only have 1 sensor hole. I think I have a straight pipe from OBX that has 2 sensor holes in it, so I'll check my other house and see if I can find it.

Thanks,
Jonathan
