JDM GSR help
Just picked up a eg 4door with a Jdm motor. Was told it was a type r but from what little reading I have done it seems I have a GSR. Just looking for more info on it if possible. Also curious on the transmission I have.
Block reads b18c
Head reads p72-2
GSR correct?
Other head stamps read. 9/3 0/6 or 9/0 1/7 blank/3 not sure on what those mean :/
And transmission says S4C-1010015
Now from what I can half *** gather the trans is either a CTR tranny or from a 99-00 Si. And is there a way to tell if it's LSD without having to Pull axles??
Thanks in advance for your help

JDM block is when all you have is B18C with no numbers next to it, only numbers underneath it, head is definitely GSR so you would have a clam shell looking IM.
To tell if it has LSD, jack up thefront end put it in first gear and spin one wheel. If the other one spins the different direction then yes you have lsd.
And the 9|3 in the first set of numbers you put up is the year the engine was produced, thats is unless it has been put on a different block..Not sure about the other numbers

Why does everyone seem to think the block is ITR? Wouldn't a JDM GSR have just B18C on block as well? No offense to anyone I appreciate the replys. I was just wanting confirmation. And figured Honda tech would be more precise then wiki.
My main curiosities are about the date and time stamps on head. And the transmission

It's probably a GS-R, it at least has a GS-R head on it, you really can't tell what the bottom end is without pulling the head since the GS-R and ITR use the same block, both stamped B18C and P72. The difference being in the rotating assembly.
As far as the transmission it's either a B16A or CTR tranny. Factory LSD equipped transmissions usually have a black LSD stamp on the case, but these often get worn away over the years, or occasionally you'll see the LSD but someone has replaced the LSD with an open diff. See pic below:

94eg8. No lettering on trans but like you said it prob has been worn off. Would you have any idea on what to look for on internals. Because this motor seems like it was rode hard and put up wet. So I am going to freshen it up either way.
Bnetkillzone. Original to motor or car? Not familiar with eg 4doors so I don't know if b series came in them. And how would I tell if it is origional to motor?

I think he meant is the transmission original to the engine, which if it's stamped S4C it isn't. B18C blocks all came mated to an S80. No Civic came with a B18C btw. But the Japanese SiR sedans came with a B16A and south africa got a 4 door civic called a ballade that came with a B18B/LS engine.
Thanks a bunch for the info. And I wasn't trying to say the b18c was OG to the car. I knew most egs came single cam. Minus stuff like the Delsol Si vtec. And from what I can find that trans came in mostly Jdm cars. But that's on wiki so no telling if it's true
I know this may sound noob but is there a difference with motor having red valve cover and black valve cover? Majority of the pics I see of Jdm GSR's have the crinkle black vc. While the one in my car has red.
valve covers are swappable. i would put no thought into anything it represents. head stamped p72 would make it appear to be a jdm gsr. but then again it may or may not be the original head to the block.
Yeah I know there interchangeable but my friend said it seemed original to motor cause it had Honda bond in oem placement areas. Not putting alot of thought into it just once again more or less curious
Np
From the factory only the Type R got red, but that's not to say someone didn't swap them or repaint yours with Krylon wrinkle red. Hondabond doesn't mean a lot, I always use it when I put on a new valve cover gasket in the corners.
That should tell you all you need to know right there.

Thanks again for the help. Just hoping it's not a mutt motor. I would rather have one or the other. But I can't complain I only paid $200 for whole car. Guy thought motor was blown but I started it up the other night
