jdm b16a..boost or all motor?
well guys. I bought the b16a i found in the junkyard that i talked about earlier in the post. But now i will be rebuilding it. Should i build back 10.4.1 or go lower to push boost. Or higher compression for all motor. Which is a better more reliable build. all motor or turbo. What turbos will work ? Im new at this turbo idea. I had a d series and never considered it. Any ideas or help. And i am not rich so i will be building my own turbo kit, piece by piece. please help the new guy out.
turbos have that "woooooooooosh" sound! lol, in all seriousness, either way is personal opinion. some people like the bragging rights at having a na powerhouse. others, like me, just feel a pull to that sound...*shiver* turbos are fine if tuned right and taken care of, just like any other engine
ok..i am gonna go all motor. due to my lack of turbo experience and knowledge for now
. So what is the best all motor set up for my jdm b16a. cams? pistons? internal mods? head work? any ideas? or suggestions?

It all depends on what your power goals are. If you plan on building a fun streetable car, then maybe a set of CTR cams and some bolt-ons. If you want to save a little money, get the CTR intake cam and a GSR exhaust came, the CTR and GSR exhaust cams are nearly identical. The biggest thing in all motor setups I've always found is how you have the head set up. Honestly I would spend my money on a decent turbo kit and run it with mild boost, about 10-12 psi. It's vastly less expensive when you compare horsepower per dollar.
a turbo will probably put out more. But i have like no knowledge about turbos hardly , just the basics and what friends say about theres. Plus the b16a needs rebuilding anyway. so all motor would be cheaper for me right now. ctr cams? what kind of hp and tq gains can i get to the wheels with them and where can i find a set? and what about ctr pistons? will they change the compression? i want high comp for the all motor build. What are the best all motor pistons for me to use besides 1000$ todas. thanx for the help man.
buy yourself a LS block(salvaged or working usually around 200-400) and slap it on if you are rebuilding, put ITR pistons and CTR cams in and you will have a whole bunch of torque and hp

Don't worry if you don't know much about forced induction, that's what https://honda-tech.com is for. Also, rebuilding the engine for mild forced induction is probably cheaper than trying to go all motor. A stock B series VTEC engine can handle up to about 12 psi all day long without a problem, and the cost of getting a decent head built for all motor is more than likely going to cost you more than a well engineered turbo kit. In the bottom end, your looking at new pistons and rings at least, and then probably a stronger head gasket, and stronger fasteners, the list goes on. It's not uncommon for people to tie up 6 or 7 thousand dollars on an engine that puts out 240 or less wheel horsepower. A well engineered turbo kit can do that and more for about half the cost. I guess it most depends on the chassis you're using, 230 horses in a gutted EF is rediculously quicker than 230 horses in a luxurious DC2. Also, the LSVTEC or CRVTEC is not a bad idea at all, everything bolts up (but you do need to do a little, very little, drilling). Oh, and did I mention the fact that the LS block comes stock with low compression pistons, perfect for running a turbo. E-mail me at stupidhumor@msn.com and I'll let you know what I know. Thanks.
I would have to agree with dc231 about the turbo and definitely about the LSVtec, probably the best engine to turbo as far as Honda/Acura engines go(strong block, holds a lot of boost). As far as the rebuild goes, just depends on if you: 1. the condition of the short block 2. application N/A or FI 3. How much you want to spend. Figure those out and go from there. If your funds are limited just turbo the B16A and try to find a LS block and start doing the block work when you have the money. I would recommend boring and sleeving w/ wiseco pistons, eagle rods if you go turbo. All motor w/ LS just like I said before ITR pistons(either stock bore or over) CTR intake cam, ITR exhaust cam. The head work is expensive, but either way you choose will get you good gains, you probably want to look at your valve train especially if you go turbo and put in CTR or ITR valves and springs or aftermarket. I have dumped well over 10g's into my all motor CRVtec planning to go FI, but I blew my block and now have to stick with all motor, I haven't dynoed it yet, but I will probably be putting out 240-260 whp, but that is with p&p head, JE valvesprings, CTR&ITR cams, over .2 wiseco 10:1 pistons, ignition, etc etc. I look back and with that I would have spent the money on a turbo right away, but I was building up to have an engine ready for turbo, so who knows. I do know that there is a kid at my shop that had a stock B16A turbo that was putting out like 278 whp and over 200 lb-ft torque on a custom turbo, but he had already blown a GSR engine and still had thousands of work to do on the block and head. Decide how far you are going to take it. I would say all motor is more reliable and will not require the amount of tuning, but you will get more from the turbo. good luck
