issue with 90-91 integra clutch
I have an 88 crx with a b18a in it. Purchased the car from a friend and it had a 6 puck unsprung clutch. As this was bought as a car for my gf, and was her first manual car, I decided to purchase an oem clutch for it. Pulled the tranny off, resurfaced the flywheel, put the new clutch on, reinstalled the tranny and such, and when I put it on th eground, there was no tension in the clutch cable. Moving the release arm by hand felt as if the throwout bearing wasn't contacting the pressure plate. I pulled the tranny back off to ensure all was well with the release arm(make sure it wasn't off the pivot point or anything). Basically, found that the issue was with the pressure plate. When installed, the fingers on the pressure plate all point inwards towards the flywheel, as if the throwout bearing was already pressing on them. Basically, the pressure plate is acting as if the the clutch should be disengaged, but the clutch stays engaged. I've done many clutch changes in the past without a problem, reinstalled the clutch many times over following the factory honda service manual exactly, torqing all of the bolts to spec, had other people do the same, it always has the same results, so it isn't an install problem.
I suggested to the shop I got the clutch from that perhaps I was given the wrong part, maybe a 90-91 pressure plate and a 92+ clutch, and was told that the pressure plate is the same from 90-2001. Is this true? Is it possible to use any other clutch then one meant for a 90-91 teg on this engine?
