if your stock cluster was working fine before then it is not the VSS, bad wiring.

if it does not work it is result of a bad electrical component in the VSS itself
either that or there is a short in the wire somewhere

from my knowledge the VSS doesnt need any grease because it deeps into the tranny where it get lubricated from the oil the tranny has.

you are talking about the drive link that goes in the middle of the actual ''drive'' part and the sensor ,right?

its not your VSS...check your wiring...

VSS means 1 thing...vehicle speed sensor...it has NOTHING to do with your tach

edit your tach should have atleast 4 wires

1 positive
1 negative
1 for lights
1 signal - the signal wire, hook it up to the orange/blue wire on your dizzy plug

my alarm did the same thing....it was a grounding issue, and when my tach was jumping it was a grounding issue as well...check the ground on your thermostat housing..make sure its tight, check all you major grounds on the motor
