Well, here is a bit of background. The engine was burning a LOT of oil. Compression ratio is 11:1, original compression was an even 245psi, about 6 months ago it was down to 180-190psi. Originally it was running really rich, so my assumption is that the rings are now washed out. So at the minimum I'll be honing and putting on new rings. Just not sure if I need more.

When you take the block to your machinest he will be able to tell you if thoes scratches will come out with a hone job. I can't dig my fingernail into them to tell how bad they are.

 

Yeah, thats pretty much what I figured. But what about all the buildup? does that show anything? I know the plugs show i was running quite lean.

I couldn't feel the marks w/ my fingernails. On two of the cylinders I could barely feel them w/ my fingers if I pressed really hard and ran my fingers over 'em.
