Default Intermediate Shaft Tech

I bought an intermediate shaft from a 90-91 integra so I can use the same axles in my crx with a B16. The problem is that as you can see, the cup at sits on the intermediate shaft against the transmission seal has come off during shipping. The question is two fold, where is should be located on the end of the shaft. There is a groove on the end where the cup lip could be press fit into. The intermediate shaft is obviously missing the coating around where the cup was supposed to be so if I line up the cup with the bottom of the coating, then the groove is exposed. Where is the proper location of the cup supposed to be, and how tight should it be in that spot i.e. should I tack weld it or is it not that crucial.

Yeah I know what it does, I just need to know if a few mm is going to make a difference, and how tight it needs to be on there.
