integra bouncing rpms
Ok. My friends integra is having problems, it is a 95 b18c1 with jdm itr pistons, jg head with itr cams, chiped gsr ecu. The motor has about 100k since the rebuilt, car was running find and strong but one day during crusing speed, all sudden the rpms just jumped all over and theres kinda whitish smoke out the exhaust. When it first starts when engine cold the rpm jumps around 2-3k then when warms up it stays at steady 800-1000rpm idle, but when you get on the gas rpm jumps all over again, when rpm jumps it sounds like hitting the revlimiter or backfires..
He tried to switch distributors, spark plugs, fuel pump, and also the ecu. All without any differences, so we decided to do a a compression test, results were from #1; 90, 100,125,135, with oil 100,120,145,155. From that we think that it could be headgasket or valves, but the car does burn oil, so it can be the rings too. We haven't got a leak town test yet, but we were hoping to try to do a valve adjustment before the leak down test.
Anything else we should look for, or is this engine done?, is engine drivible and elimate the bouncing rpms if the head is changed? Also all the plugs are really black.. thanks

sounds like something either distributor or maybe throttle gets stuck or something my b16 rpm would bounce around when i get around vtec and it was the dizzy

sounds like head gasket you #1 and two cylinders show low compression , im thinkin the gasket between the two cylinders is blown .
This shows up on the compression test as adjacent cylinders having low compression. A major gasket failure between two cylinders can cause the explosion in one cylinder to leak over and ignite an air fuel mixture in its adjacent cylinder. You will not see the oil in water symptom if the gasket is just broken between two adjacent cylinders .
