I am trying to get the brakets and ***** (not sure what you call those) back onto each other, but its not working out...
if you can type out a step-by-step procedure that would be great...
thanks...

Ahhh yes. Getting it all back together is the trick young grasshopper.
First, you will need to make sure that the tab on the thrust washer on the end of the main shaft is aligned properly with the case. There is a rectangular area cast into the inside of the case that holds the tab and keeps the thrust washer from moving. Second you will have to make sure that all the gear assemblies and shifter forks are put in correctly. getting them to seat properly is a real bitch (something you no doubt already know) Finally, lube the inside of the case very well with engine oil so that everything can slide in. I find that the bearing at the end of the main shaft doesn't like to seat unless its really lubed up (kinda like a girl i know). Finally, you will have to open the snap ring at the end of the case to get the counter shaft in. To get the counter shaft fully seated once you have the case toghther, turn it over and lightly bounce it (and i do mean LIGHTLY) off a block of wood. You will feel the shaft seat and hear the ring snap into place.
One word of warning!!!! the bearing at the end of the main shaft also likes to remain in the case when you take it appart only to fall out later at the worst possible time. Guess how i know this. If the bearing falls out and hits a concrete floor its likely to fly appart, sending ball bearings everywhere. You can put it back together of course (assuming you can find all the *****) but make absolutely sure you put in back in the right way. (there is definitely a right way and a wrong way) if you reverse it and then drive on it you will destroy the bearing, the thrust washer and the 3rd/4th synchro. Guess again how i know this. The helms manual shows you exactly how it's suppoesd to go in but it's a little confusing. Take some time to study the manual. If you don't have a helms you have no business getting into the guts of your transmission in the first place.
P.S. All the above info if from my experience of installing a Quaife differential into my 97 GSR transmission. 15,000 miles later and nothing has blown up so i think i did it correctly
Good luck!
