installing camshaft
The only time i've ever done a SOHC cam swap was for a ZEX cam into a D16Z6. I'd only worked on DOHC before that and the SOHC **** isn't that much different. Set the motor at TDC then loosten the timing belt and remove the distributor. Lift off the caps and the rocker arms (be very careful here... The rocker assembly on a SOHC motor is a mess and I didn't wanna deal with putting it back together so i squeezed in on the sides and it was fine). Set it down on a piece of card board and have someone watch that **** so that it doesn't fall apart. Pull out the old cam, drop in the new one.. Make sure to assembly lube or oil it well... (I just use oil) put the cam cap/rocker assembly back on and torque to spec. At this time I normally crank the motor over 90 degrees on the crankshaft so that the pistons are all sitting level... This just lets you rotate the camshaft to see that it turns freely without having any valve to piston contact. After that set the cam back to TDC and then the crank... Put the timing belt and distributor back on. Double check everything and your set... It took like 20 min for me to do it my first time and it's not bad at all. Good luck.
