Inside of my broken tranny
I don't know if you caught my other post, but I messed up my differential and tranny pretty good when drag racing at the track last week. It sucked. Finally took it out and apart, and here's what I found...

First off, me showing my appreciation for my tranny

Metal pieces all over the place. Notice the broken part of the case on the right side. Stupid question, but can I use this case in the rebuild?

Inside the differential. Notice the pinion gears have almost all the teeth gone and the side gear having a big chunk out of it.
With all that said. WTF happened!?! Was it just one too many 6K RPM launches that killed it? I'm seriously thinking of giving up drag racing if this is the **** I'm going to have to go through every few trips to the track.

those spider gears are CAST iron, not machined steel.
Pretty normal damage, but your tranny case is trashed. You might be able to swap the gear cluster into another tranny.
Get a Kaaz/Quaife or else get used to tranny carnage. I blew two diffs with D15 power and slicks.
BTW from the pics of tranny, it had never been apart since leaving the factory. The Hondabond gives it away.

You can buy a new case from Manchester Honda http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/
I would highly recommend a Quiafe if you plan on putting that much strain on your trans. Also, while you have the trans appart is a good time to check/replace your synchros.
Trannys are fun!

Hmm, that looks like mine a while back ago. Definately go with an LSD if you are still wanting to race the car. It will make a huge difference. When you put it back together, make sure you clean all the parts up. There will be many metal particles inside the trees and between the gears/synchros. I had to open mine back up due to metal floating around and killing my 5th gear synchro.
