Input shaft bearing?
What kind of effects would i be looking at if my input shaft bearing went bad? I can't shift my car if i'm high in the rpm range, it works fine for daily driving but i can't shift when under hard exceleration. Also, if i'm cruising at 60mph, i can't downshift into 4th, it comes out of 5th fine but won't go into 4th, if i force it, it makes a bad grinding noise, it almost seems like i'm shifting without the clutch.
Any help would be awesome, i don't know if it could be the throwout bearing, input shaft bearing, or maybe a spring in the clutch disc that went bad?
please help
steve

fi your isb. is bad i would make noise as you drive.
if the tranny grinds when shifting in the upper rpms, but its fine down low then it could be your synchros

I just get a funny image in my head when I think of that.

Bad throwout bearing: makes noise only if the clutch pedal is depressed.
Bad input shaft bearing: makes noise when clutch is released with the engine running. Does not have to be in any gear.
Bad output shaft bearing: makes noise only when the car is in motion. Same for diff carrier bearings.
Bad synchro: makes noise only when attempting to engage a gear. Rarely rpm related. You do have at least a bad 4th gear synchro. Check your clutch adjustment for the higher rpm shift probs in the remaining gears.
Bad clutch spring: doesn't necessarily make a noise, but could make clutch pedal appear to jam, depending how it fails.
