What is the horsepower of the car... the diameter of the tire.....
way too complicated of a question

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see how that is complicated. You add 3 pounds of unsprung weight at each corner and performance will suffer - even if it is just a little.

Now that's the kind of answer i needed. I found the answer to the mph part of the question. But yeah, 3lbs per corner would drop 1/4 mile time, even a little. Makes sense.

thanks

thus the reason you will see people spending 500+$$ a wheel to DROP 3lbs a wheel

actually, weight is not the same in all cases. You need to differentiate between unsprung and sprung weight. Unsprung weight (ie. tires/wheels/brakes..anything not suspended by the springs) rotates and thus there is a multiplier to this weight which occurs as you accelerate. Reducing wheel weight by 3 lbs. actually has the net effect of reducing rotational mass by a much greater amount and thus improves your car's accelation by much more than reducing sprung weight by 3 lbs.

yeah, unsprung weight gets you with a double duty..

not only does it make the add to the entire weight of the vehicle, that the torque has to pull down the track...but it will add to the parasitic loss in the driveline. People lighten flywheels to lower the parasitic loss. Though it's slightly different, because there are really no advantages to a lightened wheel (other than durability and price), but there are some disadvantages to lightened flywheel.

you can't really just come up with abritrary numbers like 1 lb unsprung = 10 lbs of vehicle weight though.

no advantages to a lighter wheel? i beg to differ... on low-torque motors (like most Honda motors), the effect of a lighter rotating mass is extremely noticable... my 5G Accord EX rims with the OEM MXV4 195/60-15 tires were 30lbs. total... with 205/55-15 Dunlop SP9000s, the weight was about 31.5lbs. and even there i noticed a difference... now 17" Volk TE-37s are 15lbs. plus the tire weight, (which is about 13lbs... and my car is definitely quicker... the

1 lb unsprung = 10 lbs of vehicle weight
That's proof by the wheel manufacture in Japan, i forgot Spoon or Buddy Club.

What do you mean? Tire *pressure*, or tire *weight*?
