Default Ignition Problems

Hi I am a newbie to Hondas. I have a 1995 Prelude Si with a H23A3 non vtec motor. When I go to start the car I push all the way down on the clutch and turn the key, but when I do some times the car starts, other times all I hear is a "tick" noise and it does not start. I am absolutely clueless of what this could be. My battery is completely charged. Also sometimes my ignition switch gets stuck, should I replace that?

I would change the ignition switch to get rid of the stick and hope that cures it.

Also, check your ground from trans to chassis, remove it, clean it all up and put it back on.

As mentioned, redo your main grounds, [batt. to chassis, chassis to engine] DO NOT just eyeball them, disconnect/clean/reconnect.

Whenever there is an electrical problem, the grounds are the first thing to check, redoing them is the best way to eliminate them as the possible problem.

The other possibilities are the CIS, [clutch interlock switch] the ign. switch, the starter relay, the starter motor/solenoid or wiring.

The most common is a grounding problem, next will be the starter motor/solenoid, [high current contacts in solenoid are worn out].

If, when you try and start the engine and you get the "tick" and you just keep turning ign. key from run to start and it will crank/start, then it is most likely the solenoid.

So next time you get just the tick, do not take your foot off the clutch or turn ign. all the way off, just release key from the start position and try again, do this until engine cranks/starts, if that works, fix or replace the starter motor solenoid. 94
