Default Ignition problem, need help....

Ok, heres the deal. The car was originally a automatic and sohc. It's now has a gsr motor and a 5spd swap in a 00civic coupe. The other day it went in it to get a new clutch and fly wheel. I drove the car home, the key was already in the ignition for me. When i got home and tried to turn the car off, the key went all the way back to the accessory position but then it wouldn't go back to the point where i could take the key out. So i tried to turn the car back, I could hear my excessively loud fuel pump turn on and everything worked, but the car still would not start, not even try and turn over. I disconnected the battery and then I was able to take the key out. If anybody has any idea why it's acting this way, i'd really appreciate any help you can give. Thanks.

it is the shift interlock mechanism.
Sounds like whoever did the install did not complete it or maybe knocked a wires loose or something.
