Car won't start .. possible timing issues? Please help.
Hello everyone. I tried a bunch of searches, but couldn't come up with an answer. I just picked up a resurfaced head for my buddy's crx today, and helped him put it on. Everything checks out visually, but when we try and start it, the car won't turn over. The 1st time it did, but bogged hard for a bit like a V8, then died.
After reading all the threads, I'm assuming its the "timing". The original cam gear wasn't marked, so now the question is where do we start? How do you adjust ignition timing on a sohc? What's the difference between iginition and distributor timing?? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!

You will have to put everything on TDC. Both valves for # 1 cylinder should be closed with the exhaust going to be the next in line. for some motors, both keyways should be in the straight up. What i would do is go to a junkyard and pick up a cam gear that is marked and save yourself a lot of trouble and money.
Good Luck!

Top Dead Center, If you are asking that question, please just go to the junkyard and get a marked gear. It will be less time, money and hassle.
