Igniter keeps burning after a month. Why? help please
This is the second time I replaced the distributor because of the ignitor burning out, but would like to know how to prevent this from happening again. First time it went bad was when I was on the road. Second time it went bad was when i was at home uploading my hondata settings.
How can i figure out why the igniter keeps burning out?
Is there aftermarket solution?
Only thing I was able to find is that it may be the wire harness.
Suggestions?
Setup:
95 civic
Turbo lsvtec
Stock distributor

Check all the wiring going to it. Also how is the rest of your ignition system? Wires, plugs? Heat is usually the main factor in reducing the life of an igniter. Excess resistance from bad plugs and wires can cause the coil to heat up and cause premature failure.
I have ngk braided wires with ngk6282 spark plugs. I have to test these parts with a multi-meter to see if their within spec.
The coil works fine, but ill check to see if its in spec as well
How do I know if igniter is getting too much heat?
Thanks for your help.
So I guess its something else that caused my car not to spark because I swapped in my the previous distributor back in (the one that I thought the igniter went bad on after testing specs) and the car cranked right up. Only thing changed is the rotor.

Will do. I been using it for several days now. Hasnt failed yet. I do have a backup distributor that I purchased from fracas on here as back up and a distributor housing from Blown90hatcH with another igniter as back up as well.
