Default Idle Problem.......High Idle.......HELP!!!!!!

93 DX hatch with SiR II B16A---Katman chipped P28 (if that makes a diff.)

Basically what is happening is once the car warms up the idle goes through
the roof. It idles around 1900 RPM. Then when the car is turned off and started
a little later (like 30 mins) the idle will go down to around 1400, then 1300, 1200, then stop around 1100.

I did the coolant bypass from the FITV. The FITV was giving me bad idle problems before. I had to keep adjusting it every few days, so I just decided to forego it.

The car idled fine for about 3 weeks after I did the coolant bypass. Now all of a sudden it started idling high as hell again.

Could the problem possibly be that I am using the wrong IACV? I have an ITR intake manifold but am using a D15 IACV. I know I need a 92-95 EX/Si, 96-00 EX, or 94+LS IACV. I am getting a 92-95 EX/SI one in a few days. Could the IACV be what's causing the high idle?

PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!!!!!!!! Thx guys

how did you bypass the FITV? i just closed mine down completely and bypassed the coolant passages and mine is working fine. If you closed it down all the way have you checked to see if it opened back up a little bit.... mine opened up again so i had to close it again....

just my experience.... hope it helps a little

I just ran the coolant lines completely around it and plugged the inlet/oultets of the FITV off. So the coolant lines still go to their intended places, but just don't go through the FITV.

That's most likely your problem... if you just bypassed the FITV and didn't close it down then it thinks there is cold coolant always flowing through it making it cold idle... The easiest way to do so is to take off the FITV, unscrew the back of it that faces towards the firewall and (there should be 2 8mm/phillips head bolts). Once you get that open screw down the whitish color plastic piece till it won't go any farther... I normally locktite or honda bond it so that it won't vibrate lose as easily... Then once you get that done screw it back together and bolt it back up.. You may have to adjust your idle set screw because closing it down all the way constricts the air more than normal.. Good Luck!! lemme know if you have any problems...

I didn't even think of that. I figured once I closed it off that it wouldn't matter if it backed out. I adjusted that stupid thing so many times.

I have a bunch of Honda bond so I'll do that.

Thanks JDM!

I disconnected my too and then adjusted it back in. It came out again so I put a piece of flashing (cut to fit) between it and the manifold with RTV on both sides. Havent heard from it since.
