IAT sensor question on b16 swap.
Alright, I just swapped a b16 into my 97 Cx. I converted the car to obd1 and i am using a p30 ecu. THe car runs pretty good except that it runs a little rich. Obd 1 cars use a intake manifold mounted iat sensor while obd2 cars use the air intake tube to mount the iat sensor. I am using the one in the intake tube and it doesnt throw a check engine light. My buddy has a obd1 ls/vtec in his 2000 Coupe and he is using both the sensor in the intake tube and the one on the manifold. Is that necessary? Is that maybe the reason i am running rich? Thanks in advance
I dont know why your buddy would run both. Did he splice the leads to both sensors? Are they in paralell or series? Either way, its unneccessary to run 2 IAT sensors, plus wiring both of them together would throw off the resistance signals to the ECU. He's better off using just one IAT.
When you run an IAT off the air intake tract VS running the one on the manifold itself, naturally the IAT positioned at the air intake tract will read a cooler air temp than one mounted on the manifold due to heat soak.
Its not much because once air gets flowing past faster it has less time to heat up in the manifold.
Im sure there's a difference, but not much. If your car is totally running rich its probably due to something else, other than your IAT location.
