i hydrolocked and need help
i went through a big big puddle and my car instantly turned off i have a cai. i then towed the car home. first i took off the throttle body and it had tons of water then took of the intake manifold and also had water in it, open up the head and had water on it also, took the drain plug from the oil pan and water came out then oil. i completely remove all the water from the throttle body/intake manifold/engine, put some new oil in.but the car doesnt crank at all, i dont know whatz wrong if the motor blown? any help would really be apreciated.
Take the spark plugs all out, and then crank it. You need to get the water out of the combustion chamber, because it cannot compress water.
I hydrolocked my GSR .... bent the rod didn't break it or hurt the block, lucky me... was a 14.9 second motor, after installing factory rods and pistons and re-assembling the engine, no added mods it did a 14.3 ahahah... odd... hmm...
no if you had a brken rod it would make a god awful sound when you tried to crank it, i think your gonna need to take it to a mechanic and have them inspect.
you have probably destroied your rod(s) and/or valves

i hydrod my d16z6-----> broke piston in half, broken piece fell into crank and wedged. also snapped another rod. damn rain. i was lucky though i bought my friends shortblock for $100
for those of you who are 100% sure you hydrolocked, how deep was the puddle (or lake), or are you sure it was just a splash.. i just want to confirm that the filter does not need to be completely submerged in water to hydrolock, and that having a bypass valve- which only bypasses full submersion, is useless.
you guys have to remember that when you accelerate, there is a tremendous amount of air being sucked in by your intake, try it once, take off your filter and put your hands in the opening and rev your engine... your hand will get sucked in, its kinda cool, anyway, i want all you people that have a cold air pipe running to the bottom of your car to know, that if youre expecting to hit that huge *** pubddle in front of you next time, than at least take your foot off the gas, and DO not accelerate, this will help prevent water from getting sucked in to your pipes, since at idle there is really not much suction at all.........
I'm just gonna either cut my CAI or buy a new short ram one. I'm tired of being worried about this and especially since the place I live floods all the time.
Worry free is better than that extra 3HP...

Remember peeps, were driving CARS not BOATS... Going through water deep enough for my CAI to suck it up, could get me thrown in JAIL where I live.
Like mentioned above, DO NOT give it any gas... Have different ways of getting somewhere, if you know it floods. If your going to a new/different area, slow down. You don't need to be going that fast anyway, after that much rain...
I think it's called "Common Sense". Try using it, it may save your life one day...

. EVERY YEAR. I have absolutely no sympathy for these people. When the Stop sign is submerged, don't try to cross.
Sorry to hear about your car being hydrolocked. You will probably want to replace all the bottom end bearings and your rings in addition to that bent rod.

i was pissed
i let off the gas *** soon as i saw the puddle and brake but it was too late as soon as i made contact with the water the car turned off in less than a sec.
also the broken rod made a scracth on my block, you guys think my block is ok????
oh and btw guys cai is not worth it on the street a short ram is more than enough, next motor im only putting the cai when i go to the track. the extra 3-4hp is not worth $1,000+ to me and also having to worry about it everysingle time it rains.

i stuck my car in a swamp a couple years ago and it hydro locked on me the best thing to do is drian out as much crap and crude then run desiel fuel through it it act as a cleaning agent then drain the desiel fuel and run some oil through it for about 1000 miles while driving like your breaking it in agian then drain the oil and replace oil..............you guys might think this is crazy but ive done it to plenty sport bikes and cars to prove it works

Hey guys, isn't this why the "ice boxes" are popular. You get the benefit of cold air and isolation from engine heat soak, plus you don't risk capsizing your motor.
I think Weapon-R makes one that is compatible with most short rams; I'll have to check it out if I decide CAI is that important.
