Default How to use socket for sparkplugs.

My sparkplug socket is too wide. But I can use my long sockets. However, it does not grip it where I can pull the plug out.

I used a magnet. Done.

For next time, is there something I can use inside the socket to help grip the sparkplug? Double sided tape? Or just tape the inside wall for a tighter fit?

Share your ideas. TIA

a 6mm or 8mm fuel hose would do the job

thats for pulling out the plugs.

Uhh... this. Parts stores and places like Sears sell them for like $5... pick one up. In a pinch I have used hose. Loosen up spark plugs a little bit and slip the hose on them and twist them out the rest of the way.

Don't mind picking one at all.

My sparkplug socket came from my dad. I know he had it back in the 1970s, when I was old enough to understand what he was doing.

That spark plug socket has work on countless cars by him and I. So I never think twice about it.

Except last week on my Nissan (QR25DE).

I have an older one as well. You have to remember those tools were made when durability was important not saving costs and cutting corners. They were also made in a time before most engines required a narrow socket for access. I haven't seen a large body spark plug socket for sale in years.

I will get a new one. So I guess I won't be able to use dad's old sparkplug socket in the future when I work on cars with my sons...

Depending on the model year, some QR engines(newer ones) require a 14mm spark plug socket.....

Doesnt mean you cant pass it down to them still!!

My dad passed almost 2 years ago and I am most definitely passing down the hole saw set in a wood box he gave me, it probably would have a hard time cutting foil, but my sons going to respect what it has done.
