How safe is CAI?
It all depends on how low your car is and how much rain your area gets. If you have to drive through fairly deep puddles often then sticking with your stock air box OR short ram with a heatshield might be in your best interests. If you want some better flow out of your stock air box Spoon and K&N make good drop in filters ranging from $100 to $35 depending. Hope this helps. -HIT

it is a 93 Civic HB, doesnt sit low (no lowering springs...actually somewhat rasied from the 17's).....but I live in Fllorida. As long as I avoid puddles, i should be alright? Is there any type of splash shield I can get?
The only way you can do any damge is if you submerge the hole filter under water, so it takes a really big puddle of water. However it could happen. If water just splashes on it, it will not hurt anything.

While I was in the Bay Area....it rained a good deal...so just to be safe...I spent $25 on a stock intake. I didn't wanna risk anything...especially since my splashguard is torn up.
I've swallowed enough water to stall my engine, but it didn't lock. I had it running on the starter for a while, and after 30 secs or so it caught back. Happenned twice. I changed the oil quickly after, and no other damages noticed. But I guess it's quite risky, so I moved the filter upwards. I'll move it back down this summer when it'll get dryer.
