how much would be milled to clean up a head
i had a head built a while back... long while actualy one of the first things in preperation of my h22... after he finished he said he would mill the deck to clean it up.. he did so but never wrote down how much... can anyone give me a guesstimate range on how much he might have milled it or maybe give me a way to measure.. im about to purchase crower stage 3 cams and some pistons and i dont want to buy pistons then clay the motor and find out they wont work
adjustable cam gears wll help in your quest to not hit valves with pistons over 11:1 with stage 3 cams especially skunk2 3's or jun 3's.
I thought it was more like 20 to 25 thousandths. 60 thousandths would really raise compression. I believe that 25 thousnadths rasises it like half a point....anyone for sure?

if the head was just surfaced then it will be under .010". It the head was being milled to raise compression, then there would have been ATLEAST .025" taken off.

I didn't think that 10 thousandths would cover resurfacing. i know that it is different on v-8 and 4 cyl heads because 4 cyl miling raises the compression ratio much quicker due to the small combustion chamber. Anyone have hard evedience? When I have run a flatedge over heads to check for warpage, a clearence of 8 thousandths difference is tollerable, but that would make a 10 thousandths clean up almost a waste of time. I'l investigate and report back...

The "clean up" cut on my ZC head was .005". Awhile back, I had to resurface an old Fiat head after it blew the headgasket. That one took .008".

exactly...assuming no major prior warpage for the numbers I posted. I build heads mon-fri to pay for school. My numbers are quite accurate.
