How much should a shop charge for a compression and leakdown test?
a shop should charge youo no omore than 50.00 to do a comp test, but with those 50.00 you could go and buy your own coomp guage and do it your self and learn about your engine. its not that hard just remove your plugs one at a time and insert the comp guage hose and turn the engine over at least 7 times on each spark plug hole and you have your comp #s.. and you should have at least over 150 in each tube
Agreed. It is easy and won't take but an hour if you do it yourself. A leakdown would only be needed if the comp numbers are down.
Also that is $50 for a comp tester and more for the leakdown tester...
INFO: open the throttle a bit when doing the comp tests to make sure they are accurate.
Once you get the hang of it you can charge your friends and make some money.
Oh yea, a shop will probably charge you for an hour so around $100.00
