how many of u work under jackstands
I always use jackstands, heck they can be bought for as little as $10-15 bux.
The only time I don't use them is at my parent's garage.....there is an oil pit there, no need for jackstands or jacks.

Years ago I worked part time in a local hospital as an intern. One of my duties was to assist in the ER with lifting patients, wheeling them around, moving gurney's etc. I remember one guy that came in who was working under a car and the jack gave out. It totally smashed this guys face and his nose was pushed all the way back into his head so that it was completely flat.
After seeing this, I never go under a car without two jackstands, period!

I found that the larger 5-6 ton stands work well when you really need some elbow room. You can get the car plenty high without using the higher settings you would need to use with the 2-3 ton stands.
Plus having the smaller stands extended all the way makes me nervous...

Yeah, I'm all about jackstands. I even use the jack under the front central jacking point as a backup. Even when checking the calipers--jackstands. Oil change? Jackstands. Tire rotation? Jackstands. Exhaust work? Jackstands (a lift, ideally).
You use the spare tire jack AND NO JACKSTANDS?!!!!! Dude, if you want to live dangerously try bungie jumping. Its more fun.
Working without jackstands, even with a floor jack (i won't even discuss the Honda jack) is just incredibly stupid. Sorry to flame but it is

please use jackstands I would hate to see anyone get hurt. BTW the olny time I dont use jackstands is when no part of my body will not be under the car and even then I will admit that I should.

I would only use jackstands, the jack is not very stable. But if just for a little bit and if a jack is all you have, then just be sure to be on a stable and flat surface and not to make any significantly large motions while working on the car, but I wouldn't stay under there for too long and not if I didn't have too.
