The Honda ECUs have a secondary ROM chip that can be installed and the computer forced to read off of that chip. Therefore, custom maps can be made. The Hondata system takes advantage of that. In addition, there are numerous extra cells in the memory maps that can have additional data points to account for boost. You need to have the car tuned and a chip burned for your car at the time of the dyno tuning to get full benefit. I'm doing mine next weekend!

Where can you get the chip burned for your Hondata ecu? Only at Hondata dealers? If so, there are only a few Hondata dealers in Canada, so it might not be a good idea for me to get Hondata if I have to make an 8 hour + trip every time i want by car tuned!!

anyone with a stage4 can tune the car with a laptop. You should put all the mods you will want in your car, take it to the dyno with a hondata tuner (or get a stage4 yourself and a laptop) and do your tuning and chip burning. Its a one time process! you would have to do the same thing with any standalone.

I have a laptop and id love to be able to tune my own car, but how easy hondalogger (?) to use? I plan on going turbo in spring, but i might not bother with the 4b if you have to really know your stuff (Im kinda afraid of screwing something up on my teg!) and it also costs a bit more.

You still have to take your car to the dyno to be able to really tune it best but you can adjust things like timing and fuel mapping with the laptop and then burn them to a new ROM chip. If there is no one in your area with a stage 4 you should go for it so you can take it with you to the dyno session. If I had a laptop I would have gone for it.

Cool, i might do that. Everyone says how great Hondata is for tuning, better than piggyback systems like a vafc. What kind of hardware do you need to burn a ROM chip? Tell me what you think of your Hondata when you get up and running!!
