Default How does a dyno work?

I would like to understand how a dyno works. Schematics would be a mjor plus. I am building something that will involve a rotating wheel much like a dyno and this could give me some inspiration.

the weight of the drum is known. Accelerating the drum from speed x to speed y over a given time = work performed. work performed = HP. Force required to produce that HP is displayed as torque.

ignore the '2ft' marking, that was used when explaining something to someone.
