How do you fix your intermediate shaft boot?
I am trying to figure out why the boot on my intermediate shaft is leaking that grey greasy lubricant all over my car on the bottom engine bay portion.. I do see there is some lubricant seeping through the boot that goes over the intermediate shaft but can't figure out why.. it seems to be on there tite enough and it fits over the shaft perfectly... what can be done to fix this?
Ok I guess I'm going to have to somehow tighten that metal band that goes around the boot cuz obviously its not tite enough but I can't seem to find anyway to make it any tighter???
you can try taking it off and wiping the shaft down and regrease the inside of the boot. Wipe down the ends where the metal bands hold it in place. That might keep it from seeping out anymore. If its got a tear or puncture, you gotta replace the boot, guy. But try taking it off and wipe down the ends/edges where the boot gets clamped down by the metal bands.

Ok so what you're thinking is take off the boot regrease and put it back on right? Yeah thats fine and that is what I want to do but I need to know how to undo the boot. I see it is wraped by a metal band but unlike most metal bands, this one doesn't have a screw that tightens it, so I dont see how I can take off the boot unless I can undo this band\.??
WHat happens is the boot relaxes over time and the band no longer holds it tight enough, you can crawl under theer, remove the old band, clean the mating area, instal some new grease and a new band (a little tighter than the old one) and you should be on your way.
I think what he wants to know is how would you guys go about undoing/taking off that metal band and reinstalling the new one tightly.....special tools? special methods? etc. (I'd also like to know)

it really depends on which band he has on there. if it is a newer Honda it is welded and must be cut off. Parts stores sell about a million different kind of repalcement bands and almost all of them are different. KD Tools makes a universal tool to tighten bands which works good. They can be bought at most parts stores, like checker or pep boys.

intermediate shaft? Are we talking about the shaft that's bolted to the block, sits between the tranny and driver side CV axle? Mine doesn't have any boots on it.

Almost all bands are universal fit now, they almost all need a special tool to tighten them to the correct tightness though.
If I am able to pull off the boot off the intermeidate shaft with my hands without removing the boot at all that must mean the band is on too loose correct? WIll I be able to throw on another metal band and just tighten that one without removing the shaft from the tranny or can it be done while its still on the tranny?
