Don't do it, you need to get a vtec ecu. The fuel won't be right.

yeah, it runs off of oil pressure, and if your oil pressure isn't right, then it won't feel like vtec. you can get your ecu chipped for vtec. it will cost around 50 bucks for it. don't run a switch.

And then how would you connect the vtec solenoid to the ecu if your original wiring is non-vtec. Im going to have the same problem thats why.

Get the proper ecu for the engine, that would be the best thing to do.

Okay, lets say he gets a vtec ecu, how do you wire the solenoid to the ecu?

You would just add the wires from the ecu to the vtec solenoid.

If you dont have a Vtec ECU, then Vtec wont work, it dosnt only work off oil pressure, The solenoid has to be turned on by the ECU, if you were to run a switch, **** wouldnt be right..
If u get the Ecu for the engien you have you will be able to wire the solenoid right to the ecu

HI

Sorry for late reply this is what you have to do there is one wire coming off the solenoid you connect that with to one side of the switch and then the other side connect it to the + side of battery or posotive and your good to go.

What would be the point of adding a switch to the vtec solenoid?

No my friend, vtec is not turning on. All he is doing is opening and closing the solenoid.
If the ECU does not see certain parameters vtec wont engage.

BTW: I wasn't the one who opened a dead thread but I see you adding to it.

let me ask you.....what happens when the solenoid opens???? A: Oil flows, engaging the second set of cam proflies, hence VTAC,yo! technically speaking it is engaged even if the ecu doesnt know it, however the car will run like total **** if hes too low in the rpms. This is why they created 2 sets of profiles, bigger is not always better

The ecu uses the different parameters you talked about to open and close the solenoid, therefore turning vtec on and off....however the ecu is not going to know to do certain things like adjust timing and add more fuel since those parameters have not been met. So theres a good chance damage will occur when he engages it too low.

BTW: since you think the world revolves around you since you made the post before me, let me rephrase;

To whomever dug up the dead threads, please stop

I know how vtec works but thanks for the explanation professor.
So you're saying it will run like **** and theres a good chance damage will occur when he engages it too low. Huh, like I said what would be the point of adding a switch, let the ECU do its job or if you want to engage vtec at a different RPM get it reprogramed or get a EMS. Thank you, come again.

BTW: your the one who thinks the world revolves around you, telling people what to do and quoting peoples mistakes but whatever.

no you dont know how vtec works or you wouldnt have said this...

you were wrong and I called you on it, deal with it

you didnt say "whats the point" , you said it wasnt turning on...so again you were wrong. and if he just reduces the crossover a few hundred rpms he will be ok, but if he engages at 1000rpms, he might be in trouble.

Heres the point of turning it on early....

If he wants to screw around and actually LEARN something first hand, let him. maybe you should follow his lead instead of acting like a know it all.

Thank you, come again.
no thanks

When did I tell anyone what to do???

I point out mistakes because if you dont know any better you will just keep spreading false info. That doesnt help anyone. If you dont know the answer noone is going to make fun of you for it, but if you spew false info and then act like a 18 yr old punk, Im gonna call you on it

anyway I think he has this figured out now so this is just BS bickering at this point
