how do i turn off this check engine light??
Ey yo guys im in need of some assistance/ Ive got a 99 Si & a few months ago a friend of mine who will never touch my car again almost blew my engine by getting water into the spark plug shafts and although i got all water out and my car is running fine tha check engine light has come on and off and now will not turn off, its been on for like a month now at least/ anyone know how to get it turned off and stay off??
Have you checked to see what code is being displayed? Before just trying to make the light go out, better find out why its on in the first place. If you just want to "turn it off" warm the car up. Then, with the car shut down, pull the "hazzard" fuse on the passenger side fender well. Leave it out for 30 seconds or so then put it back in and start the car. This will reset the ECU and allow it to "learn" the idle parameters (OBD 2). Find out what's wrong!
AutoZoned will read the code for free. At least the ones near my house
.
When they tell you what it is, write down the code number, nut just the guy's explanation. I had 'em read P1457 on a '98 Accord, he said it was loose gas cap. According to Helm, that code means unable to hold vacuum in the EVAP canister system, nothing to do with the gas tank itself.

Do you know how i could find out whats wrong without paying mad loot?? aka how i could do it myself??
why not search, you can easily pull the code yourself with a paper clip, check it out

Pull the back up fuse(7.5) from the underhood fuse box for ten seconds and then replace it. If the code comes back, short the 2prong service connector above the passenger side kick panel with a paperclip. This works for 99 and 00 SI, and all other bseries I've tried it on. Read the check engine light flashes, long flash =10's, short flash = 1's.
'99 is OBD-2, I don't think it does the OBD-1 paper-clip-trick. You need to plug in an OBD-2 reader, which looks like a calculator with a wiring harness.
