Default How do I get timing belt to be tighter?

My timing belt seems to be a little loose. I tried all the ways I can think of to get it tight, but it still seems a little loose. Anyone have any tips to getting it tighter on a B18C1 motor?

You know it's not supposed to be as tight as your AC belt... You should just be able to twist it 90 degrees in the long span from crank to exhaust.

Take off the upper timing cover. Loosen the tensioner bolt. Reach down with a coathanger to 'help' the tensioner spring. Be careful you don't unhook that spring...

While you pull up on the tensioner, have someone grab the crank pulley, turn it just a tiny bit counterclockwise. That moves the slack over to the tensioner, allowing you to pull it up a bit. While your friend is holding the crank, tighten the tensioner bolt.

Leave it at the stock tension, if anything just replace the spring. Dont overtighten it, it'll stretch the belt then you'll really be in trouble.

put the timing belt on with the tensioner loose then rotate the motor about 3-4 teeth(look at the cam gears) then tighten the tensioner. rotate the motor a few times and make sure theres no big slack spots in the belt. then youre done!

screw all that, i know that ur supposed to have a slight amount of looseness in the belt but i run mine without any slack. from the time i start it up to the time i shut down the motor that belt has no "flap" in it, even on the long side. what i do is put a 14mm wrench on the cam bolt, put a 19mm w/ extension on the crank bolt. push down (counterclockwise) with my foot on the rachet attached to the crank bolt while holding the 14 mm wrench on the cam bolt with my left hand (be sure to not let the cam rotate) then with my right hand i turn the tensioner bolt tight. ive ran my setup like this for 3 seasons now, JUN valve springs on JUN 3 cams and currently JUN 3 cams on Rocket Motorsports valvetrain.
