haha, must be nice

Ask for the VIN the car came out of. That would be my first guess. I'm not sure if there is a VIN stamped on the block or head....

I don't think they stamp any vin Info on the block or the head. As least I never seen it.
Only the newer 94+ tranny has a vin plate and can be removed if someone really wanted to.

Yeah how do you check, is there a way to run the serial number? Wheres the heads serial numbers?

Yes I too would like to know where the number on the head is... i see so many R heads gsr heads b16 heads for sale... but i dunno how ppl tell if its a good or bad one...

ummm how can you take a number off a tranny? aint it illegal just with it off even if its yours? like if you take numbers off your own block or car.. aitn that illegal? so wouldnt that apply to tranny?

on a USDM b18c1 there is a little blueish green VIN plaque that looks similar to the tranny vin plaque right above the oil pan under the exhaust manifold. Im not sure whether b16a's have em. IF its a JDM motor you wont be able to check if its legit.

In california the only way to run numbers is to bring it to chp , if its hot they take it from you.

That's correct. The trick is to go to chp with the guy that you are buying the engine from. Run the #'s. If it's hot, let them take it from him BEFORE you pay for it. If he won't go to CHP, watch out. If the #'s are ground off, the CHP will take it just on principle. Happened to me with a tranny without a vin #, even though the tranny was older than when they began to stamp them. They didn't care.
I stamp everything myself now.

Ok if its a 96 an up usdm block it will have a vin. a 95 or 94 will be hard to trace. same with trannys a cylinder head cannot be traced why do u think all these e- bay theifs just sell the heads.

exactly... there is no way to trace a head since there are no id/vin/serial #'s on them... 96 and up trannies and blocks have vin plates riveted into them... if there not there it is assummed that it is stolen...
