Default How to acquire COP signal?

Since the Honda coils are individual you have the 3 wire design. A power, ground, and signal. When converting from a distributor setup, how do you send individual signals to let each coil know when to fire?

Not 100% on how they work, but I'm assuming the signal wire is the input in which receives a command coming from the ecu, and then has a driver either inside the ecu or the coil itself that closes off a circuit and fires off the coil.

Go ahead, and correct me if I'm wrong.
