Default Hondata or electrical experts please help

Look at the other replies I have traced the problem but still need help.

I installed a hondata s200 in my car last night, the problem is that the light on the box turns off and on erratically. The car runs fine and is not in limp mode because I can rev it up too hondata redline. The dealer can't tune it right now because when the light turns off he can't data log. Sometimes the light will stay on for a longer time (about 45 seconds) then I'll give it allot of gas and the light will turn off. It is not the box, ecu or the chip because we have tried different ones. It seems to me like its a wiring problem but I don't know where to start.

Ok now this problem is really getting weird. When my hood is up the light stays red. When my hood is down light turns off. The light goes off as soon as the latch touches the hood. I've tried running a wire from the hood to the latch to see if it would turn off but no light stays on. What could this possibly be?

I've tried putting a piece of rubber over various electrical components and then closeing the hood but the light still goes out. Please give me some suggestions on what to try i'm running out of my own ideas and never seen a problem like this one.

Have you moved the blue boxes wire very gently to see if the light goes on and off... My personal opinion on the newer generation boxes is that they suck... The boards have play and their connectors just aren't as good as the 1st gen (anodized boxes)... I've seen and worked with many of the newer ones and had this problem... Sometimes it's also the wire, this may not hold true in your case but there's always that slight possibility that when you move close your hood it jars the connections... Just my $0.02, and good luck... Peace

What ECU and what base program? I installed the S200 recently, and I had a solid check engine light, no codes. Turns out I needed to disable the knock sensor on my ROM tune(using a P28 ECU), problem solved. The new version of Rom Editor uses the P72 as a base program. Have you tried e-mailing or calling Doug with the specifics of your problem? Hondata customer service is , so I am sure that he could help you.

did you cut j12 in your ecu? if not do so.
make sure the 4 pin connector is soldered in properly. i had this happen once and i have to ground the s100 into the harness. no problems since. make sure j12 is cut and make sure the chip is right for the ecu you have.

All your suggestions are good but its none of them i've checked double checked, it might sound like a dumb thing but its my hood when its closed the light turns off but when its open light stays on and doesn't turn off. It is the weirdest thing but something is shorting on my hood but I don't know where to look. Thanks for all your suggestions.

Maybe you have a bad groudn wire somewhere. Check all the grounds in the car. Might be something loose, that closing the hood makes a new ground path.

My friend had a chevy blazer that the horns wouldn't work unless the hood was closed. Closing the hood connected the grounds, and it worked.

Or look for a pinched wire/loose connector. It coudl be the reverse of my other post. Like the hood is pushing on a connector causing it to break contact..

Do you have an alarm on your car with a hood pin that breaks a ground when you drop the hood??? I'm not sure how I could exactly link the two but atleast that wouldn't mean your hood latch is trying to ground out for some reason... I just don't see how it would do that as both the hood and release are grounds of the car... Good Luck again!!

There is nothing pushing on the hood and no I don't have a hood pin sensor for my alarm. When I make the ground with a piece of wire from the hood to the latch the light stays on but if I lower the hood the light turns off. I tried running another ground from the hood to the fire wall but that doesen't seem to help. This problem is really starting to irritate me any other suggestions.
