For your car, you would need an Obd2-obd1 jumper harness, to run the hondata ecu. THe hondata ecu is most likely a P28, with a few modifications of course to run the system. (my hondata ecu is a p28) I compared it to a normal p28 and found that ofcourse there is the new plug inside the hondata ecu where the ecu and hondata brain can be connected.

they also sell the P28 obd1 ecu with obd2 connectors. so no need for the conversion harness.

which i have one brand new for sale, if needed

Hondata units need to be taylor tuned to each individual car. You can use a "base map" that will run your car, but you won't be getting the most out of the motor until you have it tuned by someone who knows what they are doing.

thanx for the all the info. so basically u have to tell them what you have in the car what mods. and they set the ecu to the set up u have in your car. i like that idea of not needing a conversion harness for the ecu. if the cel like comes on would the codes still be the same.
how much does this costs for the ecu. not to mention its hard to find a good shop in ny who knows how to heavy ecu tuning

You still need a conversion harness for a 99 Civic. You also have to have someone tune your car after the install, not before. You can start with a "stock" map, but like I said, it won't run its best.

As I understand it all;

Your ECU is modified by yourself or a "licensed" Hondata dealer. If you can solder on circuit boards, it doesn't look like a big thing. YOU DO NOT BUY THE ECU FROM HONDATA, just the parts that are added to it.

Once it is converted, you can use a rom "chip" provided with a base map. What you would be getting is a set up that will get you running. There are several different maps available and you may be able to get one that is close to your engine and car configuration. You could start with the "stock" map for your engine.

If you take it to a Hondata "tuner", what they do is take out the chip and install what is called a "rom-emulator" that is hooked up to a computer. While this is hooked up, the tuner can make changes to the map and make it specific to your car. You don't want to buy an emulator yourself, as they are rather pricy. Once that is done, a chip is "burned" with that map in it. The emulator is removed and the chip is installed.
