Default Highest Compression on pump gas

Hey guys what the hightest compression ratio you can have on 92 octane pump gas? Going in LS/Vtec w/ B16 head...

I wouldnt push past 13:1, for a daily driveer i would say around 12-12.5

ive got 12.4 on my b20vtec still and im running on 93octane nothing seems to be happenning... I drive it almost everyday..

depends on tuning. i would say 11.0-11.5 for everyday driving. more than that and you are starting to push the driveability factor.

Static compression ratio and octane rating are not really related. You need to build the engine around what you plan to do with it. An engine with a higher static compression ratio will require more duration on the cam to keep cylinder pressures low enough so the air/fuel mixture does not auto-ignite (detonate).

For a daily driver you probably don't want to go past 12.5:1, like the previous poster said. That being said though, the RPM the engine makes max power will be lower than an engine with, say, 13.0:1 If you want a higher reving engine you will need to go higher on the compression ratio.

I wrote a short paper on cams vs. compression ratio stored in my notepad if you want me to PM it to you later.
