No, synthetic oil does not cause blown head gaskets. Class dismissed.

Just curious, what was the reasoning you heard behind this myth?

other things can attribute to HG failure such as improperly tourqed head bolts, dirty mating surfaces, etc.

Could be that the headbolts were reused... you're generally supposed to replace OEM headbolts, but who knows. I would have to guess at improperly cleaned gasket mating surfaces. That or the head is warped.

what are the exact symptoms your having?

just that the car overheats?

is there alot of white smoke coming out of the exhaust?
is your oil contaminated with coolant?
is your coolant contaminated with oil?

how long does it take for your car to overheat?

no synthetic doesnt blow your headgasket lol

ive got a huntch its one of a couple things

1) whoever redid the headgasket reused the head bolts

2) whoever redid the headgasket made a mistake (like torque order or spec)

3) you drive like a retard.

hate to be so blunt, but 2 headgaskets in a year isnt usually a car/engine problem. its a driver/technician problem.

no other symptoms besides overheating and coolant evaporating quickly ... after driving 30miles or so... but that was it...coolant is not contaminated with oil or vise versa...

oem head gasket is what the guy told me he used....
