Default Help! Timing belt problems....

My timing belt tensioner keeps coming loose even though the bolt is tight. What's going on? Thanks-

did you tighten it down to the specified torque? I believe it is 38ftlbs. I don't have my helms right here in front of me.

OR is the tensioner just loosing tension. Perhaps the springs is not on or has excessive slack>??

bolt was torqued well, tensioner still moves, and the bolt won't loosen up!

Do you have the right bolt in there? Is the spring hooked up to the tensioner??

it's the right bolt, and yes the spring is hooked up.

And the belt is routed correctly. What method did you use to tighten the belt with the tensioner.

Once the belt is installed and the tensioner is loose and everything is at TDC rotate the crank so the belt moves three teeth on the exhaust cam gear. Hold this position.

Now if you look thorugh the timing belt cover you will see a tab on the tensioner. For extra measure I like to pull up on the tensioner tab and tighten the bolt while holding up gently on that tab.

if the bolt on the tensioner is tight then the tensoiner should have 0 play in it so in other words, if that bolt is tight then it shouldn't move

can you move it with your hand? while the bolt is tight

also when you put the belt on did you make sure that all of the slack was on the side with the tensioner because if you have excessive slack else where on the belt, when you spin the crank the slack will transfer to other spots in the rotation

basiclly when you put the belt on it should be a tight fit everywhere except on the tensoiner side

Yeah, I also pulled up on that tab as well... the belt comes loose in higher RPM's.

I would replace your tensioner and bolt. If it is coming loose at high rpm I would stop driving it immediately. That is asking for disaster.

Yes sir, I am going to give a call to acura tomorrow, seems to be the safest way out. I sure as hell wouldn't want to deal with it if it turns out to be a stripped bolt!

If it is torquing down it would not be a stripped bolt.
