Default HELP Screeching after installing new Starter???

I just installed a new starter on my 96 accord and now when I turn the car over there is a screeching noise just as it turns on? Is there something i did wrong? I just took the old one off and installed the new one with the reverse steps as taking it off? Thanks for any help

Is it maybe cause its new I am just turning the key to hard? Its almost sounds like what happens when your car is running and you turn the ignition. It doesnt seem to do it if im gentle turning the ignition. IDK???

could be shimmed wrong. Did it come with shims or did the old one have shims? Sounds like the started isn't perfectly seated against the tranny correctly.

It didnt come with any shims and I double checked things to make sure it seated right and then took it off again to triple check and it was seated fine. Idk it doesnt make the noise all the time now just some times maybe cause its new?

just return it and get another. NO big deal. Their starters are usually lifetime warrantied anyway. I got advance on mine and its went out on me once but I just took it back and got another without any questions. It only take a second to replace a starter on a honda any way.

there's a reason its got a lifetime warranty........
i know its not hard to change, but i would get oem and not worry about it again.
do it right the first time instead of next year and a month later and a year later and two days later etc.......
