HELP!! PLEASE!!! Broke a cam cap bolt!!!!!!
I really need help! I just broke a bolt tightening one of my cam caps after puting in my cams. Its broke off inside the head. What do I do!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????? Can this bolt be backed out? Can I go without it? Someone please help me!!! I have been without a car for 3 months and I finally got the money for this LS motor. Seriously, please help me guys!!!!
You'll need a drill and a screw extractor, or EZ-Out, or whatever name you want to call it. Do yourself a favor and don't run the car without fixing it. And next time, please use a torque wrench on important bolts like that.
I tend to use the torque wrench on anything under the hood. And suspension mounting bolts. Sometimes you will be suprised as to how little torque will hold things together.

I drove my beater gen2 LS with a broken cam bolt for a year without any problems. Not that it means anything but I just wanted to add that bit.
Yeah you def want to get it out. If you cant remove it with an EZ out, your going to have to take it to a shop. Unless you comfortable drilling and retapping it with a heli coil (which will prob cost more for the tools than just taking it to a shop).
Lesson learned, use a torque wrench king kong.

i avoid using easy outs. just screw/bolt extractor.. i think size #2 used this about 6 times, never failed yet. I used an easy out once and it broke in the bolt, had to cnc the bolt out.

I currently have 2 broken cam cap bolts in my head...no problems after over 7kmiles. I wouldve gotten them out but i was in a hurry to get the motor together. Besides...its a beater so i wasnt too worried.
Ive had to get them out of other heads before. The easiest way to get it out is to buy a small hex head bit that fits onto a ratchet. Then find a drill bit thats barely smaller than the bit. Drill down about 1/4 inch into the bolt. Take a hammer and gently tap the hex bit into the hole you just made. Then you just put the ratchet on it and back it out. I know it sounds ghetto but ive done it numerous times(on other things as well) and its always worked fine. The first time i did it i was worried that id expletive up the threads in the head...but they were fine. If you have a drill bit then all youll have to get is the hex bit...which can be gotten for like $1.75-2.50 at your local auto parts store.
Im glad you got it out though man. Better safe than sorry...especially on an engine that would see boost

those cam holder bolts are important though, especially with hondas and the high rpms. Theres alot of force on the cams. some may not worry about it while others know better. Thats my $.02
