the car is an 88 CRX Si with a 1990 B18A engine with about 3,000 miles on it

Ok, first off the oil level is fine, it was the first thing i checked. Now my problem is that sometimes when i deccelerate my oil light comes on. I just had a brand new type R oil pump installed so i'm pretty sure that isn't the problem (also the light came on before i installed it). I was hoping it was just a short somewhere in the system and that it was purely electrical but the more it comes on the more i'm worried that i might be hurting the engine. When i had the pump put in, he also put in a sending unit he had sitting around. I highly doubt that both of them could have been faulty.

So to recap, oil light comes on for unknown reason. Any ideas or suggestions welcome. TIA

 

check the pressure sensor?

 

Well even if you disconnect the wire at the sensor, the oil light still won't come on. So the sensor could be broke and sending a bogus sign.

 

Unplug the oil pressure switch & leave the wire pretty much where it is. Drive around - if the light continues to come one sometimes, then you KNOW it's a short in the wiring someplace. Otherwise it's the pressure switch.

 

have you tried a mechanical oil pressure guage?
