Default Help needed, regarding rust on cams

Hi there,
Im new to posting on this board, thou the infomation I have gained off of here is great.

Ive got a slight problem

Ive got a H22a, that unfortunatly has been stored with the Rocker cover off,
On 2 of the lobes a slight surface rust has formed, not deep at all.

My question is, if I fire it up like this will any damage be done, ive cleaned it off as best I can, but i imagine it will wear dead smooth once the engine has run for a little while?

I should probably take the cams out, but I need this engine in by tomorow hopefully

Thanks for your help.

Hi there yourself!

the damage is already done. i really dont know - but id expect that there would be minimal short term problems,

in hte long term it may be a bigger problem, because of increased wear on hte parts, but who knows!?!?!

maybe someone else...

I recommend you buy a product called Navel Jelly. Most autoparts stores sell it in the body repair isle. This stuff removes rust nicely.

cams are hardened to resist wear and they shouldn't have a problem i have found the best way to remove rust or and unwanted wear is to ue light emory cloth and cleaning solvent (parts washer)

clean up the cam lobe as much as possible. some pitting will remain but just drive the car a few thousand miles and mic the cam lobe. as long as it is in spec or nearly so youll be fine.

get some 2000 grit sandpaper, wd40 or motor oil, give a few light passes wipe it down to see if they disappear.
