Default Help! My engine overheated today!

Help! my car overheated today!!! 8:00 PM 6/6/2002

I have basically stock 98 civic ex (I & H only) and before today I have never seen the temperature gauge move...ever.
but on my way home from work I glanced over to see how I'm doin on gas and my temperature needle was passed the big H

So I get off at the neareast off ramp and pull into the gas station to find coolant spraying from the radiator overflow/reservior cap. (around the cap) after it cooled a bit I pulled the cap off to make sure it was tight, and it was.

So I filled the radiator back up and drove home...no overheating now ( only about 10 miles left, and when I get home I immediately pop my hood to find coolant...err water now, spraying out from around the reservior cap again...

Is there just something wrong with that cap like maybe its not sealing correctly or is there something Im just not seeing.

Thanks!

Maybe a defective cap or leaking radiator...
have it pressure tested... .

I wouldn't be driving the car around until you figure it out

I chacked the radiator and no leaks from anyplace I can see.

the only leak I can see is from the reseviour cap.

the thermostat might have stuck shut. a weak thermostat is usually revealed when you start out cold, the temp guage goes higher than it normally runs at before suddenly returning to normal. also, once i ran over a plastic walmart sack and it blew up in front of the radiator, cutting off airflow and causing it to overheat.

Check the hose that connects ur radiator to the engine. You probably havea small pinsize hole on the hose. Do this, with the engine still hot, (use a towel) squeeze the radiator hose, and if u see coolant squirting out, than thats ur problem. You got two hose, one is on top and the other is on the bottom of the radiator. Check both. I had this (top) and it took me10mint to replcae it (after the engine cooled).

Just get another one from the dealer ($18.00)

Easy to replace if thats the case. But make sure the engine is cold.

I checked all the both hoses, and all around the radiator.

the only place coolant is coming from is the resivior cap. thats what I dont understand.

You think If I just got a new cap (not the radiator cap....the RESIVIOR cap) please excuse my spelling, that would solve my problem?

I've never heard of the resivior cap leaking.
