HELP: i hate my car (kinda long)
1st let me give you some history on the car (94ls). I spun the 2nd cylinder rod bearing about 2 months ago, got it fixed and the car was running fine.
Basically last night i was on the freeway and everything seemed fine. As i was driving my oil pressure dropped from about 80 psi to about 45-50. At this moment i felt like i wanted to yak! I exited the freeway and immediatley added a quart of oil. I let the car sit for a bout 5 minutes and noticed this loud KLACKING noise right of crank, but it immediatley stopped.
I let the car idle for a bit. I then went on to check each cylinder. I pulled out each spark plug wire one by one and checked by revving. When the 2nd cylinder wire was out (same cylinder that i spun the rod-bearing) the Klacking noise was there, but not as loud.
Now im assuming it's the crank, because 50 psi is still enough oil pressure, right?
tell me what you guys think it might be and also why this happened, im thinking the oil pump probably stopped working.
im so sad and MAD!!!
also do you think it's better the re-build my block or get a low-mile longblock?
TIA

99% of the time you throw a rod bearing is from loss of oil pressure at high revs. If you fixed the first bearing problem and did not address the oil problem then history repeats itself. Also when a bearing destroys itself it fills the engine and oil pan with metel fillings that need to be cleaned so they don't clog the oil passages or clog the filter. You have to clean the oil pickup and under the baffles in the oil pan really good to remove the filings as part of the repair. They should have replaced the oil pump also. So the correct repair should have been a complete rebuild of the block. Good luck.
