HELP - green stuff dripping from water pump!
installing my B20VTEC, i am upto fluids...
oil = no problem, coolant = no problem - oh, wait there's a drip!
i left it overnight, the bleed hole is trickling... there is over one litre of coolant that dripped out,
i havent tried to start yet (damn battery went flat from the radio!)
i know the bleed hole is meant to leak a bit, does it go away?
or does it mean my pump is bad? (it was really easy to spin the pump in my hand before i installed it)
thanks,
t..

When fluid is dripping from the the water pump bleed hole, it usually means the pump is going or has gone bad. I would replace it immediately, is it new or reused? I would get one anyways if it is used, and if its new, return it.
yeah, it is off an old B16A,
i have a B20 one, it is fairly new (it feels much stiffer than the B16 one)
i sorta hoped it would be OK, but yep - i guess it needs to be replaced...

This info comes directly from AHM..
"A little coolant leakage from the water pump weep hole doesn't necessarily mean the pump seal is shot. The weep hole is just doing its job of keeping the coolant away from the water pump bearing. As long as there's no measureable coolant loss, the pump is still good."
But again...I would think that 1 litre would be a measureable loss and might be a problem..

Most of the Time Honda will replace the water pump with the timing belt (80k-100k). So yeah change your pump and also do the timing belt too since your right there at the same time. Too bad you didn't do this while it was out of your body. You should also think about changing the thermostat and radiator hoses if they came with the motor. I little extra money and time now on parts could save you a blown motor down the road.
You can't use the b20 pump. if you're using a b16 pump now then you're using a vtec timing belt. the b20 pump wont work unless you change to a b20 or ls belt.

Well he had a liter about 32oz so it's a given that the seal is blown.
Oh yeah I forgot to add on the underdrive pully and cam gears when you have the belt and pump off.

ROFLMAO!
yep! i should have done it whilst the engine was out!
yes, i could have used the B20 pump, i have a B16A t.belt, B20 t.belt and a GSR t.belt to choose from...
so i pulled the known 'good' pump of the other B16A and fitted her up, took 32 minutes.
thansk for the advice guys!
she is running fine now...
