HELP!! Can't get crank pulley off!!!
Does anybody know a way to get the crankshaft pulley off without using that special wrench from Honda that holds the crank while you break the nut loose. I've tried putting a flywheel bolt back in and holding on to that while putting a wrench on the crank nut, but that didn't work. Any help would be great. Thanks- Josh

A strap wrench will work. Ive used the metal ones but they seem to be a bit harsh on the pulley. Even when I used a belt to protect it. But I dont know if the rubber ones hold up as well. Good Luck.

Jam the flywheel using a hexbit between the teeth and the tranny case. then use 1/2" breaker bar and extensions with a 4 foot pipe and have at it.

Will the same crank pulley tool work on an 89 Accord that is for the 90's accord? Or is the tool different?
Thanks

Basicaly in my experience the only impact gun thats been able to get that damn bolt off is a 3/4" one. If u do no have access to that, do what i always do:
First, jam the flywheel with a crow bar or some sort.
Second, connect a 1/2 rachet with the proper socket
Third, put a pipe around that rachet, as long as u can get, i use a 3-4 ft long ones.
Fourth, gradually start to put your weight on the pipe until you here that bitch crack lose.
Sometimes you might need more people to get on the pipe, but if your strong enough just push and put weight at the same time.
You could also spray the area down with some WD or something of the sort. Trust me it will break if you do these steps. Has worked every time for me. If you have any sort of strength you should be able to break it lose

i pulled my hair out initially. then i invested in the crank pulley holder tool for $60 and got a breaker bar and a 4ft length of steel pipe.
you put the crank pulley holder against the ground so it wont move and use a 19mm on the bolt and use the breaker with the pipe and it comes off like butter!
now i never fear getting the thing off. if you plan on owning honda/acuras for a while get the tool

doesn't this hurt or gouge the flywheel? I thought about doing this since I am currently in the situation of needing my crank pully off. I had decided to put the car in gear have the wife hold the brakes and use the impact wrench I just bought. haven't tried it yet though. I was just scared to jam anything in the flywheel for fear or gouging/bending etc... I'm sure it's strong but with 4 feet of leverage I wasn't sure It wouldn't get damaged. I also have the oil pan off so I thought of blocking the crank against the block with wood or something but discarded the idea for similar fears.

Re: HELP!! Can't get crank pulley off!!! (sinister)
i take it to the garage on the corner, they use their 3/4 drive impact to blow that bad boy off, then i hand tighten and drive back home. first time i was scared so i pushed home
but u can tighten it enough by hand so that it stays on and be able to take off later. or tell the guy with the impact to just tighten it to like 80 ft lbs

Ive done it to two cars with no problems. The flywheel teeth are made of steel i think so the tranny case probably would break before anything happens to the flywheel teeth. if you are afraid I would first try slamming the brakes and puttin it in 5th gear like you mentioned.

i got a question for ya... how do you get the pully of if have the engine out of the car?

Anyway, 1 breaker bar with the pulley tool on it, slide a pipe over it, set the end of the pipe on the floor. 2nd breaker bar goes on the bolt, slide a pipe over it and PULL!

I went to harbor freight tools and bought a $37. 1/2" impact and it takes that nut off easily. even with the car up on jack stands it got it off and didn't even hardly rotate the crank. I think the secret are the "imapcts" it kind of applies small but very hard jerks to the nut that break it free. pulling on it with a long lever is too linear and it doesn't jerk loose.

the bolt comes out MUCH easier if you heat the washer red hot then it will come out with minimal effort. I have done about 10-15 this way. One tiny blip of an air gun and it comes out.
