Default Hello Honda guy(gals).

First, I'm not going to kid around and pretend I'm a honda fan. I come from a different world of engines. I signed up here because I needed some help with this engine B18C type R I'm in the process of rebuilding for my sister's boyfriend. I come from heavy equipment world and honestly I would rather work on that stuff than these tiny cars lol, I just cant fit! Anyway. He bought this car 2000 Honda Civic with a 18BC type R motor installed already, drove it about 100 miles and spun a rod. I tried to talk him into building the motor from scratch, but he found this "built engine" On craigslist ( I WARNED HIM) so he dumped $900 for this. It was supposed to be ready to install, so we did it. It had more blow by then a steam engine. I ran compression checks and had 200, on 2 cyclinders, 195 on the third, and the last had 150 PSI. So we figured somebody turbo'd the hell out of it and blew the head gasket. We had oil and water coming out the edges of the head so doing the head gasket seemed the solution. We pulled the head only to find that a spiral clip for the wrist pin was gone and so was half the cylinder wall.

So now we are looking at the old block thinking we can use that instead. I mic'd it up and both blocks are standard, one had stock bottom end and the second had SRP pistons and H beam rods. So I'm thinking I can do a fairly cheep overhaul, new bearings, new rings, a good hone job, and put this together with out any issues. The block measure up very good, not out very much at all, ( credit honda for the high nickle sleeves). We have the parts list for the SRP piston and wrist pin kit, so we are good there,

I guess my big question is, do I need to line bore this block? I haven't had to do that in years, but if its needs to be done, I'll do it.

Is there any advantages to port and polishing the intake, head and throttle body, or is it kind of minimal gains for the work?

The goal with this engine is to just have a good engine in the car. We have the other with the wrist pin scores to build, so that was the plan. I'm already thinking of taking it to the 20 B bore and keeping the Vtec functions since we have two good heads. He does want to turbo that car later, but for now, If I'm going to build this, I'm going to ask the guys that know their ****! then make decisions!

Any advice will be welcomed. Thanks!

By the way, I have 14 years in heavy equipment with well over 200 engines built and dyno'd, Most are Diesel, But I was also a member of the original V8RX7forum.com, now Norotors.com crew and helped with the ford 8.8 rear end swap in the early stages. I've since moved on from all of that, but my car was 1986 RX7/2000LS1/4L60E and 8.8 T bird IRS rear. The car ran 12.0 flat all day, went 165MPH, got 29 MPG and still handled like a slot car. I kind of miss it!

I can handle the job. :-)
