Default Headgasket to raise compression?

Which headgaskets out there raise compression? Was it Cosmetic? Also how reliable is a OEM minus 1 layer? Lot of copper spray of course.

i didnt even know you could raise compression with a different gaskett. i thought you could only lower c/r with a thicker gaskett. but that does make sence a thinner gaskett higher compression.

yeah they are an easy way to raise compression. im pretty sure you need a valve job.

why would you need a valve job? I have a cometic that ups the compression. If you have a stock bore its harder to get a cometic that matches what you want but if you have a 84mm or etc then they have tons of gaskets. Spoon and Mugen gaskets raise compression too.

Well I would be careful about splitting a OEM gasket to get higher compression. I've try it and it doesn't work. I try it as my last dich effort to get the last bit of HP for my maxed out B16. It weaked oil, coolant and compression. After talking to a few major engine builders, I was told that there is not enough material to seal if you split a 3 layer gasket. BTW did you know that a mugen and spoon gaskets were nothing more than a OEM ITR type gasket that was split and modded. I'm being told that those bitches leak too.

Can anyone tell me about how much hp you would gain from raising the compression by 0.1 increments?

using an aftermarked HG to get HP gains isn't worth the money. There are several factors that play into the mix, and you have to remember that you're not just rasing compression, you're bringing the head closer to the block(which in turn can lead to bent valves down the road, depending on modifications). I ran a Mugen gasket for a while... no they don't leak if you put em on right... I didn't notice any signifigant improvement over the stock one. The dyno showed about 3 hp and 2 ftlbs. No biggie overall. You're better off increasing displacement, or getting port and polish for upping HP.
