Even with header wrap there is a considerable amout of heat being radiated in to the bay, which is why I am wondering about the insulation of the intake. Header wrap is also prone to cracking headers (particularly aftermarket ones) as it concentrates heat on the header... while this is good for emissions and reducing under hood temps, it can damge the header... but the original Q is about insulating an intake pipe, which I am more concerned about.
Is this true about wrap cracking the header? I want to wrap my header, but I don't want to risk breaking it.

Do you have any experience with this?

Certain headers, such as the DC Sports Ceramic header, have been known to crack over time w/ header wrap and I have seen one first hand. Also, some friends in the Domestic arena can attest to some headers cracking at seams while wrapped. I guess you can consider that attesting ?

I eventually had the AEM re-coated w/ a nice red powder-coat, but haven't put in the cold air extension yet.... but it looks pretty....HA.

i agree that it does help. if the pipe is HOT(or at a high temp) it will heat the air up since air molecules just bounce around all over. AND im sure king motorsports don't just do wrong ****. they're not stupid.

i think wrap will help. does anyone have links for intake wrap and header wraps? i wanna get both and dunno which brand and how much. i dont need the best of the best. i just want something that will do its job for the money.

here's a pic of the Grand Am S2 class King Motorsports ITR with a Mugen intake wrapped in reflective kooltape. In racing, you go for every little advantage you can get.

Every little advantage except power steering....
